Welcome Back
Greetings Gill Community,
I hope you have all had a restful and relaxing summer full of ice cream, swimming and the occasional lightning show. Teachers and Mr. Eckert have been hard at work getting their classrooms and the school ready, and Gill Elementary looks great!
This year we have three new staff members joining us. Ms. Jenay Haskins will be teaching first grade. She comes highly recommended from Pearl Rhodes, and has spent the summer making her classroom a home away from home for her students. Ms. Sherry Wood is joining us in second grade, coming from Sheffield Elementary School where she distinguished herself as an exceptional teacher, winning the Grinspoon award for excellence in teaching last year. Lastly, Ms. Heather Powers will be joining us officially this year as a paraprofessional. She is a valued parent and member of the Gill community who has served on the PTO and as a substitute in our school for years.
While we’ve been hard at work here getting ready for the school year, we’re missing all of you, so please mark your calendars with the following important dates:
-
Monday, August 27th, 5:30-6:30, Ice Cream Social
-
Thursday,8/30, Friday, 8/31, Kindergarten Orientation Days. Please call for an appointment starting 8/23. (413) 863 3255
-
Thursday, August 30th, First day of school for 1st-6th grade
-
Tuesday, September 4th, First day of school for Kindergarten and the Boo-Hoo Breakfast for Kindergarten Parents.
-
Kindergarten Parents, please remember that September 4th, 5th and 6th are half days ending at 12:00.
When you return to Gill Elementary, please remember the following guidelines to help our operations run smoothly:
-
The school is open at 8:25 for drop-off. Students may get a breakfast from the cafeteria.
-
The traffic circle is for active loading and unloading. If you are walking your child to the door, please park in the lower lot.
-
Please do not pass on the left in the traffic circle unless directed to by a staff member.
-
Our school day ends at 3:15, and pick-up runs just like drop-off, with the exception that students get back into your cars.
On the first day of school, your child will bring home a packet of information. Included in this will be a handbook of our specific policies and procedures. Please take some time to review this with your child.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (413) 863 3255 or conor.driscoll@gmrsd.org.
All of us at Gill Elementary are looking forward to welcoming you back or welcoming you for the first time to our community. We are committed to a strong community and a great education and look forward to sharing that commitment with you throughout the year.
Thank You,
Conor Driscoll
