Dear Gill Families, Caregivers, and Staff,
We had an absolutely fabulous first week back! Students have expressed how happy they are to be back in school and I’ve heard lots of positives from parents and caregivers as well. Staff is so thankful to have their students in front of them and have shared the difference they’ve noticed in student engagement and the amount of learning that has increased compared to remote.
I’d like to officially introduce and welcome two new staff members! Emory Penland has joined us in first grade as a new special education paraprofessional, and Zoe Neeley has been hired as our new science specialist. We share Zoe with the two other elementary schools and she will be with us on Mondays.
I’d like to thank the PTO for generously purchasing mats for the classroom doors, pads for students to sit on outdoors, and a clipboard for every student. The Gill PTO has asked me to let them know what students need to have a successful return and they’ve been incredibly responsive.
I am planning “Spruce up Gill School Day” to clean up after the long winter. We need help in beautifying our school grounds. There is mulch to spread, some leaves around the building to rake, and plants to plant. The Nature Trails have some branches down over the paths so we need some help moving/cutting those for students to access the trails. Donations of plants or flowers would be appreciated as well! Gill PTO will provide fresh water, coffee and donuts. If you are able and interested, please contact me to let me know.
Sincerely yours,
Lisa Desjarlais, Principal
