Happy Friday and happy long weekend from Gill Elementary School. Please remember that there is no school on Monday, October 8th.
We have an exciting couple of weeks coming up! At our All-School Meeting today, we kicked off our fall fundraiser. For the next two weeks, students, families and the community can sign up to join our team for Be Bold Be Bald at https://fundraise.beboldbebald.org/GillElementarySchool. *the link can also be found on our facebook page and website. The goal of this fundraiser is twofold:
-
First, it is about raising awareness and supporting friends families and loved ones who are dealing with cancer in their lives. On October 19th, we will have our Be Bold Be Bald day. Any students who are taking part can wear their bald caps, decorated as they would like, to show their solidarity and support for anyone dealing with cancer in their lives or the lives of their loved ones. We have many members of our community for whom this support will be offered.
-
Second, it is about fundraising for a cause. This is a nationwide (possibly global) effort with a goal of $2,000,000. Our school goal is $500. That is where our challenge comes in. If we surpass $500, every additional dollar will equal one additional second of recess up to $2000. If we surpass $1500, the top fundraiser for the school will get to shave (with safety clippers) my head at our school rally on Friday, October 19th.
Next week, we have a full schedule:
-
On Tuesday, 10/9 at 5:30, kindergarten will hold their open house. (This alternate date is due to a schedule conflict and we apologize for any inconvenience.)
-
On Thursday, 10/11 1st-6th grade will hold their open house from 5:00-6:00.
-
On Friday, 10/12, students will be making scarecrows to line our drop-off circle. Be on the lookout for class themes and volunteer opportunities.
-
On Friday, 10/12, at 5:30, we will be having our yearly fire! All are welcome and food will be served. We are still accepting wood to burn down the hill from the basketball courts on the sandy area.
-
On Friday 10/12 from 6:00-8:00, the town of Gill will be hosting a Contra Dance inside. All are welcome!
Finally, a shout-out to our 3rd and 5th grade students who held their walkathon this Wednesday. They braved wet sneakers and long grass and some walked as far as 8 miles! These miles count towards our 100 mile club goal, and that club will be kicking off next week.
Have a fantastic long weekend!
Thank you,
Conor Driscoll
