Dear Hillcrest Families, It seems that Fall is finally here!  Our students have been arriving each morning wearing their cozy sweatshirts and jackets and sometimes their hats and gloves, too! Thank you for sending your children to school ready to enjoy outdoor play as the weather cools down.  Getting outside for recess each day is a top priority around here and having the appropriate layers is so helpful! Tomorrow, Friday, October 19th is an All School Meeting starting at 2:15 in our auditorium. Tomorrow, Friday, October 19th is our 3rd annual pumpkin carving party in our cafeteria starting at 6:00 pm. Wednesday, October 24 is a half day with a noon dismissal.  October is National Bullying Prevention Month ("Together against bullying--United for kindness, acceptance, & inclusion"). Important Information: Students that were absent on the original school picture day will be photographed the morning of Tuesday, October 30, 2018. Long sleeve, solid colors work best for portraits. Retakes will be free of charge for technical problems only (closed eyes, camera malfunction and blurry image!) There will be a $5 charge for all other reasons (different expression, change of hair style or clothing issues, etc.) To receive a retake, you must present your package to the photographer at that time. More hands-on learning in math: students collecting data on height compared to arm span. Then they made scatter plots and trend lines to test Vitruvius's claim that a person's arm span is equal to their height.  Students also tested bridge thickness vs. breaking weight and bridge length vs. breaking weight.  They had a choice to do this with paper bridges, or virtual bridges on their Chromebooks.
10/12/18 Happy Friday from Gill Elementary!   We have had a very eventful week this week! Thank you to everyone who came out last night for our open house. It was wonderful to see all our kids’ work and even to see some former students come back.   Our scarecrows are back! Students in every class today took time to build a small army of scarecrows who will stand in formation on our traffic circle starting today.   Dear Hillcrest Families, It was wonderful to see so many Hillcrest students and families here at Hillcrest for Open House on Wednesday night!  Our students were so proud to to show off their classrooms, share their achievements and introduce their families to their new friends.
