Dear Gill Community,

I’d like to give a shout out to the Gill Elementary PTO for sponsoring a “drive through” Trick or Treat on the night of Halloween. The Gill fire and police departments showed up to help out as well. Students that were able to attend were very excited to attend this event! On the Friday before Halloween, the legendary “Pumpkin Head” person made an appearance at Gill Elementary.

Parent-teacher conferences are beginning for most students this week, and there are two dedicated dates for these important meetings, listed above for your convenience. On Thursday evening, teachers have a time slot to offer an evening conference for those parents/caregivers who are unable to attend during the day.

These conferences are an important component of ongoing home-school communication and family involvement in your child’s school. They provide an opportunity to learn more about your child’s progress at school, ask questions, and share concerns. During a normal school year, parent-teacher conferences can be stressful, however there’s no question that in this year, parents and teachers alike are all dealing with a significant amount of uncertainty and anxiety. More than ever, this is a time to be on the same page as your student’s teacher to ensure that your child has everything they need to succeed! I have included a “Family Guide to Teacher Conferences” following this letter for your review, which I hope will provide some tips for a successful meeting experience.

For an update on returning to school in the Hybrid structure, the Superintendent continues to look to the HVAC repairs, staffing, and current case totals in the area to make a decision. I have completed a Hybrid Plan for the school and have the student cohorts planned. As soon as we have more information on student cohorts returning, I will be reaching out to families right away. We have air purifiers, ionizers, Plexiglas dividers, markings in the hallways, and ample supplies of sanitizing materials and PPE for students to return. In my opinion, as a school we making good progress for students to return, plan wise! I know how difficult this is for students and families. Please know you are in my thoughts, as I know how much students miss their friends and being physically present in the school. I am also very cognizant how this is impacting families as well and please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any concerns or questions at (413)863-7456 or at Lisa.Desjarlais@gmrsd.org.

Have a wonderful week!

Lisa Desjarlais, Principal
