Family Update on COVID19

March 26, 2020

Dear District Families,

As you know, the emergency school closure has been extended until at least May 4.  There will be many repercussions of this extension, including the need for the district to provide more robust teaching and learning for students.  We are currently receiving guidance from DESE on what is expected for general education students, as well as for providing services to students with special needs.  I anticipate we will be developing these plans through the weekend.  We will share them with you as soon as possible.  In the meantime, here are some specific items to mention:

  • Our grab and go meals service will continue
  • Schools and offices remain closed with staff and administrators working from home
  • Teachers will continue to provide remote learning to students
  • Counselors and other staff will continue to be in contact with students and families

While many home learning activities may not require internet and computer access it is clearly going to play an important part of remote learning in the weeks ahead.  With this in mind, we are working on a plan to gather a comprehensive list of families that do not have internet service and/or do not have a computer at home.  You will hear from us soon via a phone message on how to provide this information.  We are working on plans to help all families gain internet access and be provided with a computer, where needed.

We will be in touch again soon.

Sincerely,

Michael Sullivan, Ed.D.

Superintendent of Schools
