Dear GFMS and TFHS Families: After much hard work by our staff, we received good news from the state late last week: GFMS and TFHS qualify for the Community Eligibility Provision, meaning we are now "free school meals for all students" schools!
Breakfast is available to all students beginning at 7:30 am in the cafeteria or from our mobile Breakfast Cart (in the event of a delayed opening, no breakfast will be served). We have many new, highly talented and dedicated staff joining our learning community this year. I would like to introduce you to few of them over the next few weeks. I will lead off the introductions today with the district’s new school resource officer (SRO), Dan Miner of the Montague Police Department. Officer Miner is a graduate of Turners Falls High School and has been on the Montague force since 1997. Dan lives in Montague and this past year he had three children attending district schools. Greetings Gill Community,
I hope you have all had a restful and relaxing summer full of ice cream, swimming and the occasional lightning show. Teachers and Mr. Eckert have been hard at work getting their classrooms and the school ready, and Gill Elementary looks great!
This year we have three new staff members joining us. Ms. Jenay Haskins will be teaching first grade. She comes highly recommended from Pearl Rhodes, and has spent the summer making her classroom a home away from home for her students. Here's the letter that went out in the mail to school families last week. It includes information about what to expect on the first day of school, staffing changes, and other important details. Ms. Martin asks students entering 7th grade to read and review two books over the summer. Here is the assignment, which includes a list of recommended titles, a rubric for the book review, and a sample book review. The book reviews are due by September 15, but if you turn yours in on the first day of school (August 30th), you'll get extra credit!
