School committee member April Reipold resigned her position effective November 27, 2018. April has been a thoughtful and conscientious member since 2014 and she will be missed. The school committee has begun the process of seeking a replacement to fill this vacancy until the next round of elections in May, 2019. Rise Up is a Self-Actualization class designed and led by Faith Kaemmerlen that uses team building and community service opportunities to build communication and leadership skills. Students in this year's class describe it as " a chance to learn a lot about yourself and some skills to help you and the community." Each year the students in Rise Up plan, organize, run and clean up after the Dodge Ball Tournament; challenging themselves to expand their comfort zones and plan a fun, inexpensive, community event. On November 20, teachers Jennifer Luciano, Jessica Vachula-Curtis and 32 of their students took part in Monte's March Against Hunger.  Their combined teams raised over $2,700 for the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts!  Thanks to all of those who donated.  The team marched 8 miles from the center of Amherst to the center of Sunderland through very wet and cold conditions - it was a great community-building day.  Congratulations go out to our civic-minded students for their participation and to our community service driven teachers...
