Hillcrest Elementary School Friday News October 4, 2019 Dear Hillcrest Families,   Happy October!  These first few days of October have certainly brought seasonal weather along. Thank you for dressing your children in layers -- the mornings have been quite chilly! As you make that transition to warmer clothing, please be sure to label all of those sweatshirts, jackets, hats, etc.  Writing your child’s name in permanent marker somewhere on the garment will help to keep track of these important items. It’s hard to believe that we’ve been here over a month again, but the colors in the trees and crisp mornings don’t lie. Fall is a magical time at Gill Elementary. We welcome our local fire fighters to do Fire Prevention week. Younger grades get to see the equipment and truck. Older grades get to go to the station and the smoke room. Fall is also when we have our Bon Fire! That is scheduled for 10/18 from 5:00-8:00. The fire department will be there, too, manning the grill and managing the blaze. Yesterday we had our first announced lockdown drill.  This drill is overseen and observed by our local and state police to ensure procedures and expectations are followed for student and staff safety.  Overall we did very well. There were some students who needed to be reminded to take our drill seriously. I could use your help in reminding your male student how to use a bathroom.  There have been many instances of boys clogging our urinals and flooding the bathroom and hanging and swinging between the sinks.  Yesterday was National Custodian’s Day....
