Hillcrest Elementary School
Friday News
September 16, 2022
Dear Hillcrest Families,
It was a week of “firsts” here at Hillcrest. We had our first Fire Drill of the school year, our first rainy day parking lot flood, and our first full day for our preschool and kindergarten students! Special thanks go out to the Turners Falls Fire Department for being here twice this week – once to lead us through our Fire Drill and once to help us manage the impact of Tuesday night’s storm in our staff parking lot!
A few important news items:
-
School Picture Day is Tuesday, September 20th. School picture order forms from Classic Photography will be sent home in your child’s backpack today. If you need another form, please call Mrs. Prokowich in our main office at 413-863-7400.

Our Hillcrest Open House will be held on Thursday, September 29th from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. This family event follows a drop-in format in which you are welcome to join us at any point between 5:00 and 6:00. Some families may spend 20 minutes and others spend up to 45 minutes visiting our teachers and classrooms. This year, we have scheduled our Open House on the same night as the Open House at Sheffield Elementary so that families with children in both buildings can start at Hillcrest and then head next door to Sheffield. We really hope to see every Hillcrest family at Open House!

Did you know that Hillcrest serves as a learning site for local college students? This fall, we are happy to host four student teachers in our kindergarten and preschool classrooms. In Kindergarten, we have two students from the University of Massachusetts: Makayla Bumpus is student teaching in Mrs. Fox’s classroom and Sophia Hajjar is student teaching in Mrs. Lesenski’s classroom. And, in Ms. Chanda’s preschool classroom, we have Jackie Thibeault from Greenfield Community College. In Ms. Teresa’s preschool classroom, Cassi Millett, who is already part of the Hillcrest community as a Hillcrest paraprofessional, is also pursuing her student teaching coursework via Greenfield Community College.

Please note that the only dogs allowed on school property are Service Dogs. Please do not bring your dog to school drop-off or dismissal and please do not bring your dog to our playground or fields to play after school hours.
IMPORTANT REPEAT ITEM

Please remember that we are a Nut Safe school district. This means that no nuts or nut products are allowed in our school buildings or offered in our school meal program. For more details, please check your family handbook.
