Dear Hillcrest Families,

 

Our students and teachers had fun celebrating the 100th Day of School this week!  This is a very exciting “holiday” for young children. There is just something very powerful about the number 100! I hope your student came home with some exciting tales to tell about their 100th Day. 

 

A few important news items:

 

  • Mr. Wood, Hillcrest Physical Education Teacher, has an important reminder for all Hillcrest families:  PLEASE BRING YOUR SNEAKERS TO SCHOOL!  Sneakers are absolutely essential for Physical Education class and are also the preferred indoor footwear for all Hillcrest students.  Our students are on the move in PE and in the classrooms, so please be sure your student has sneakers each day.

  • The second round of At-Home Covid 19 Testing Kits will be distributed next Friday, February 18th.  If you have not yet opted in to this program and would like to participate,  please call Jazmin Miller, Hillcrest School Nurse, at 413-863-2638.  Nurse Jazmin can help you to sign up for this program in time for next week’s distribution. 

  • Friends of Hillcrest is hosting a Dean’s Beans fundraiser now through February 18th.  If you would like to order some Dean’s Beans products, please use this Dean's Beans Online Order Form.  The live link was also included as an attachment to your weekly email. 

  • Each year, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education – MA DESE – issues school and district reports cards on various accountability measures such as teacher qualifications, student attendance, and standardized testing data.  Attached to this week’s email you will find a copy of the Hillcrest Report Card.  

  • Conferences are coming up!  We will hold our spring conferences on March 17th and 18th.  Our teachers have begun their outreach to classroom families in order to schedule each student’s conference.  We really look forward to meeting with you and sharing news of your student’s progress. 

  • In the next couple of weeks, I will be reaching out to the broader community with details about preschool and kindergarten registration.  If you have relatives, friends or neighbors with preschool or kindergarten age children, I would love your help in spreading the word. Please stay tuned for details via this newsletter. In addition,  I will be preparing mini-posters to share around town and if you’d be willing to bring a mini-poster to your favorite local business or gathering place, please let me know by calling me at 863-7400 or sending me an email at sarah.burstein@gmrsd.org.
