June 11, 2021
Dear Hillcrest Families,
As you well know, it was a very warm week here at Hillcrest! We all persevered with lots of mask breaks, plenty of water and some popsicles for added relief. Perhaps the most exciting news of the week is that our Facilities Department was able to install window Air Conditioning units in all of our classrooms! These have made a significant impact as far as cooling things down and making the hot days a bit more manageable for staff and students alike.
Some important news items for the week:
-
Please note that our last day of school is Monday, June 14th. This is an Early Release Day and lunch will be served. While it may seem strange to return from the weekend for just one day of school, we really hope to have all of our students here on Monday!
-
As we head toward that last day of school, we are also getting ready to say good-bye to some beloved staff members. Heading off to retirement are Mary Savinski, Hillcrest Cafeteria Manager, Janet Dobias, Paraprofessional, and Lori Saylor, First Grade Teacher. Each of these women has worked for our school district for many years and has had an immeasurable positive impact on many students. We are going to miss each one of them very much.
-
Your Hillcrest student came home this week with a drawstring tote bag filled with books for our Summer Reading Challenge. Please be sure to review the Summer Reading Challenge Packet that was included with these books. And, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to give me a call at 863-7400. I will be here all summer!
-
Finally, I want to express my deep gratitude to our entire Hillcrest Community for all you’ve done to support us this year. It’s been a challenging year and flexibility, patience and creativity have been the essential ingredients. Despite the challenges, our students have made amazing progress and they have built strong connections to this little learning community. Thank you.
Important Repeat Items:
-
Device Return -- For those students who have district-issued Chromebooks at home, it’s time to return these to school. Here is an important message from our Technology Department: All School Issued Chromebooks must be returned to your child’s school by Tuesday 6/15. Devices not returned by Friday 6/18 will be locked and unable to be used. Chromebooks not returned are considered lost which is a $200 charge. Please contact the main office at 863-9526 if you have any questions.
-
Our school district has partnered with the Montague Parks and Recreation Department to offer sponsored spots in their summer recreation programs for children. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
