Dear Hillcrest Families,

 

June has arrived and we’ll soon be experiencing our first heat wave of the summer!  You may already know that Hillcrest Elementary School does not have air conditioning and it can become very steamy in our classrooms on those hot days! Please be sure that your children are dressed appropriately in lightweight clothing and that they bring their water bottles to school daily.  We will provide lots of mask and water breaks all week long to help everyone “weather” the weather.

 

Some important news items for the week: 

 

  • Device Return -- For those students who have district-issued Chromebooks at home, it’s time to return these to school.  Here is an important message from our Technology Department: All School Issued Chromebooks must be returned to your child’s school by Tuesday 6/15. Devices not returned by Friday 6/18 will be locked and unable to be used. Chromebooks not returned are considered lost which is a $200 charge. Please contact the main office at 863-9526 if you have any questions.

 

  • Summer Books for Hillcrest students:  Next week, your Hillcrest student will come home with a special summer reading project! Our teachers have selected 4 wonderful grade-level books for each student and these will come home in a Gill-Montague drawstring tote. Along with the books will be details about the Summer Reading Challenge. We hope that every Hillcrest student will enjoy these books, complete the challenge and be ready to turn in their reading log for a free bonus book in the fall!

  • Our school district has partnered with the Montague Parks and  Recreation Department to offer sponsored spots in their summer recreation programs for children.  Please see the attached flyer for more information. 

 

Important Repeat Items:

 

  • For our Remote-Only Students, the last day of online instruction is different than the last day of school  for In-Person Students:

    • Remote-Only Preschool -- Tuesday, June 8th

    • Remote-Only Kindergarten -- Wednesday, June 9th

    • Remote-Only First Grade -- Wednesday, June 9th

 

  • Don’t forget! The Friends of Hillcrest online store at Silver Screen Design is now “live” and ready to accept your orders for fun Hillcrest gear!  Check out the store link and you’ll find Hillcrest t-shirts, sweatshirts and hats for children and adults.  A portion of each sale will go to Friends of Hillcrest.
