December 18, 2020

Dear Hillcrest Families,

I hope you all had a chance to enjoy our first Snow Day of the school year!  My guess is that many families welcomed the opportunity to close down the Chromebooks and head out into the snow! Unfortunately, the snowstorm has put our Story Walk plans on hold and we’re now aiming to get the Story Walk set up by Wednesday, December 23rd for families to enjoy during the vacation week.  Details on that will be posted on our website and Facebook page.  Many of the news items in this newsletter have embedded links which you can access if you are reading the newsletter on our website or on Facebook.  However, our email program cannot provide live links.  So, if you want “clickable” links, please access this newsletter via the web.

A few important news items to share:

  • Your child’s report card will be mailed home on December 23rd.  Please be sure to read this report and let your child know how proud you are of their progress!  All of our students and families and teachers are working so hard during Remote Learning and everyone deserves a big shoutout!

  • Massachusetts will be issuing another round of P-EBT benefits to Hillcrest students this month.  For more information, please visit this link: MAp-ebt.org

  • ATLAS farm is sponsoring several winter farmers’ markets on Saturdays from 10 - 2 in Turners Falls at the Franklin Area Survival Center on January 30, February 27 and March 27  and in Greenfield at Community Action on January 9, February 13 and March 13. SNAP/HIP can be used for purchases of fresh local products.  Please see the ATLAS Farm Website for more information.

  • Many thanks to all the community members who donated to the GMRSD Food Drive! It’s been such a pleasure to see students, family members and school neighbors dropping off items to support this important cause.

  • Update for Kindergarten Families -- There will be a Materials Pick-Up for kindergarten on Monday, December 21st  from 12:00 - 3:00. We will follow the usual drive-up routine. Please wear your mask and remain in your vehicle in order to allow our staff members to safely deliver the learning materials to you.

  • An important message from Nurse Melissa Bednarski about holiday gatherings: the CDC has issued new guidelines for family safety over the winter holidays.  Please check out these tips on Making Winter Holidays Safer

Wishing you a wonderful weekend ---
