Dear Hillcrest Families,

 

You may be wondering . . .what time does school start? Where should I drop my child off?  And, where should I pick my child up?  All of these questions will be answered comprehensively when you receive your Hillcrest Family Directory and Handbook on the first day of school.  Until then, this tip sheet will give you the basic information you need to get ready for Back to School! Back to School Basics

@ Hillcrest Elementary School

 

Arrival/Departure:

Daily Arrival and Dismissal Routines

Our building will open at 8:00 each morning so that children can take part in our free, healthy breakfast program. All of our students are welcome to join us for breakfast. Preschoolers must be accompanied by an adult caregiver during breakfast unless prior arrangements have been made with the school principal. Please note that the school day begins at 8:30.

Arrival: Families who transport their children to school will have two Arrival Options this year:

    • Front Traffic Circle: Rolling Drop-Off in the front traffic circle for first grade and kindergarten students only. If you choose to participate in Rolling Drop-Off, please keep in mind that you must follow all traffic regulations concerning school busses.  Drivers must remain in the drop-off lane until they reach the front of the line; drivers may not cut out of the line. Please be aware of the flashing lights and stop signs on our school busses and school vans. Students should wait for a Hillcrest staff member to assist them in exiting the vehicle (passenger side only).
    • Griswold Street Parking Lot Entrance: Park and walk your child to the door for all students (first grade, kindergarten and preschool students). This is not the location for Rolling Drop Off.
    • Hillcrest staff members will be on duty at both entrances to welcome your child beginning at 8:00 a.m.  Please do not drop your child off at school prior to 8:00 a.m.

Departure: Families who transport their children home from school will pick their students up at the Griswold Street Parking Lot Entrance. Please be extra cautious as this lot gets crowded in the afternoons. Supervise your children carefully as you walk through the lot and be patient when parking and pulling out of the lot. There will be no Rolling Dismissal at the front traffic circle. This area will be used for bus dismissals only. School Bus: Children who take the school bus will arrive and depart from the front traffic circle at the school’s main entrance. Please note the official school day start and end times:

  • Our school day begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:15 p.m.
  • Our building opens for breakfast at 8:00. Students arriving between 8:00 and 8:20 will head directly to breakfast.
  • Students who are not eating school breakfast may arrive at school between 8:20 and 8:30.
  • Arrival after 8:30 a.m. is tardy.
  • Early dismissal is any time before 3:15 p.m.
