Dear Hillcrest Families,
Happy New Year to all of you! While we all enjoyed school vacation week, we were very happy to welcome our students back to school this week! Getting back into our school day routines has been wonderful . . . your children have transitioned smoothly into their days of learning, playing and growing at Hillcrest.
A few important notes:
- Now that winter is officially here, it’s a good time to remind families about Two Hour Delays and Snow Days. You can find delay and cancellation information on our district website and on our school Facebook page. You can also check the websites of Channel 22/WWLP and 98.3 FM/WHAI. This information is usually posted around 5:30 a.m.
- On Two Hour Delay Days, please note -- The school day begins at 10:30 and the school building opens at 10:15 (not 10:00). Breakfast is not served on Two Hour Delay Days, so please be sure that your child eats breakfast at home on these days. And, there is no school for our half-day preschoolers on Two Hour Delay days.
- Please send your child to school with winter weather gear every day. Even when there is no snow on the ground, our playgrounds are often muddy and mucky, so boots and snow pants are essential.
- Next Wednesday, January 9th is an Early Release Day. Our preschoolers will be dismissed at 11:30 and our kindergarten and first grade students will be dismissed at 12:00. Lunch will be served.
- Hillcrest School Council will meet next Thursday, January 10th at 3:30.
- We hope that many family and community members will join us for our January All School Meeting on January 18th at 9:00. We will enjoy presentations from the following classes: Mrs. Prevett’s preschoolers, Mrs. Lesenski’s kindergarten class, and Miss Matrishon’s first grade class. Our theme is Social Justice.
- Also on January 18th, Friends of Hillcrest will host our annual Cocoa, Cookies & Crafts event from 5:30 - 6:30. This is always a very fun evening -- please plan to join us!
Wishing you a wonderful weekend --
Sarah Burstein
