Hillcrest Updates

• Thank you to all the Hillcrest community members who joined us for All School Meeting today!  We hope to see you at our November All School Meeting on Friday, November 17th. 

• This week, our kindergarten and first grade teachers participated in Math Data Meetings on Wednesday and Literacy Data Meetings on Thursday. At these meetings, we review each student’s assessments, set learning targets and make instructional plans.

• On Tuesday, October 31st, Captain Geoff Ellis of Turners Falls Fire Department will visit our classrooms to share some important Halloween safety tips with our students. 

• We look forward to seeing every Hillcrest family at school next week for Family Conferences on Thursday, November 2nd and Friday, November 3rd.  We are proud of our tradition of 100% participation in conferences and we really value the opportunity to build strong connections with each student’s family. 

• With Halloween just around the corner, please keep in mind that candy is not allowed at school at any time of the year.  Please do not send candy for your child’s snack or lunch.  We will not be having Halloween celebrations during the school day and children should not wear Halloween costumes to school.  For some Halloween fun this weekend, please join us for Trunk or Treat and check out the Halloween Party at the Carnegie Library. 

• Please be sure to read the attached Hillcrest Math Newsletter.  It features curriculum information and our monthly math challenge.  All students who participate in the math challenge will be entered into a drawing to receive a math prize!

Friends of Hillcrest

• Trunk or Treat will take place TONIGHT – Friday, October 27th from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. at Sheffield Elementary School. This event is co-sponsored by Friends of Hillcrest and Friends of Sheffield and it’s open to Hillcrest and Sheffield students and their siblings.  For more details, check out the Friends of Hillcrest Facebook Page. 

• The Friends of Hillcrest Butterbraids Fundraiser orders are due by Wednesday, November 1st.  Orders will arrive at school on Wednesday, November 8th. 

Community News

• The Carnegie Library on Avenue A has some really fun events happening! There’s a Halloween Party on Saturday, October 28th at 11:00 a.m. and a Tea Rex Party on November 3rd at 3:30 pm..  And on Halloween, you can Trick or Treat at Carnegie Library, the Millers Falls Library or the Montague Center Library from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. You can find more details attached to your weekly email. 

• Check out the attached flyer for details about the 2023 Public Safety Festival on Saturday, October 28th at Sunderland Elementary School.  GMRSD School Resource Officer Dan Miner and Montague Mack will be there!

• Are you interested in taking a free first aid class designed specifically for parents and caregivers of young children? Check out this link for a free workshop in Northampton on Sunday, November 19th. Childcare is available.

Novedades de Hillcrest

• Gracias a todos los miembros de la comunidad de Hillcrest que nos acompañaron en la reunión escolar de hoy.  Esperamos verlos en nuestra reunión escolar de Noviembre el viernes 17 de Noviembre. 

• Esta semana, nuestros maestros de kindergarten y primer grado participaron en reuniones de información de Matemáticas el miércoles y reuniones de información de Lectura y Escritura el jueves. En estas reuniones, revisamos las evaluaciones de cada estudiante, establecemos objetivos de aprendizaje y hacemos planes de instrucción.

• El martes, 31 de Octubre, el Capitán Geoff Ellis del Departamento de Bomberos de Turners Falls visitará nuestras aulas para compartir algunos consejos importantes de seguridad de Halloween con nuestros estudiantes. 

• Esperamos ver a todas las familias de Hillcrest en la escuela la próxima semana para las Conferencias con las Familias el jueves, 2 de Noviembre y el viernes, 3 de Noviembre.  Estamos orgullosos de nuestra tradición de 100% de participación en las conferencias y realmente valoramos la oportunidad de construir fuertes conexiones con la familia de cada estudiante. 

• Con Halloween a la vuelta de la esquina, por favor tenga en cuenta que los dulces no están permitidos en la escuela en cualquier momento del año.  Por favor, no envíe dulces para la colación o el almuerzo de su hijo.  No tendremos celebraciones de Halloween durante el día escolar y los niños no deben llevar disfraces de Halloween a la escuela.  Para un poco de diversión de Halloween este fin de semana, por favor únase a nosotros para Trunk or Treat y echa un vistazo a la fiesta de Halloween en la Biblioteca Carnegie.

Los Amigos de Hillcrest

• Trunk or Treat tendrá lugar el próximo viernes 27 de octubre de 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. en Sheffield Elementary School. Este evento es co-patrocinado por Amigos de Hillcrest y Amigos de Sheffield y está abierto para estudiantes de Hillcrest y Sheffield y sus hermanos.  Para más detalles, visite la página de Facebook de Friends of Hillcrest. 

• Los pedidos para la recaudación de fondos de los Amigos de Hillcrest Butterbraids vencen el Miércoles, 1 de Noviembre.  Los pedidos llegarán a la escuela el Miércoles, 8 de Noviembre.

Noticias de la Comunidad

• La Biblioteca Carnegie de la Avenida A tiene eventos muy divertidos. Hay una fiesta de Halloween el Sábado, 28 de Octubre a las 11:00 a.m. y una fiesta de Tea Rex el 3 de Noviembre a las 3:30 p.m..  Y en Halloween, usted tiene la oportunidad de Trick or Treat en la Biblioteca Carnegie, la Biblioteca Millers Falls o la Biblioteca Montague Center de 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Usted puede encontrar más detalles adjuntos a su correo electrónico semanal.
