Hillcrest Updates

  • We’re sending out a big THANK YOU to the Turners Falls Fire Department for the wonderful Fire Prevention Week presentations today. Our students really enjoyed getting to know our local firefighters and learning about fire safety. Be sure to talk to your child about setting up your family’s Meeting Spot and checking the batteries in your smoke detectors.

  • Family Conferences will take place on Thursday, November 2nd and Friday, November 3rd.  Please be sure to sign up for a conference with  your child’s teacher. It’s our goal to have 100% participation in Family Conferences.

  • At the end of October, our teachers will be holding Math and Literacy Data Meetings. At these meetings, teachers review each student’s math and literacy progress and build instructional plans based on the data. Some children may require additional instructional support in the form of Tier Two intervention from our Math or Reading Intervention teachers.  You will receive a letter in your child’s blue folder if they will be joining an intervention group.

  • Please note that children should not wear shoes with heels to school. Sturdy, rubber soled shoes that tie or buckle are the best choice for school.  And, on P.E. days, sneakers are required. 

Friends of Hillcrest

  • This week, Friends of Hillcrest sent home news about two upcoming events: The Butter Braid Fundraiser and the Trunk or Treat event.  Be sure to check your child’s folder. 

Community News

  • Looking for some weekend activities? You may want to visit the Great Falls Discovery Center. This Saturday, there is a Migrations Festival from 1:00 - 5:00 featuring  the GuateMaya Art & Culture Connection, music, food and children’s activities. And, there is an ongoing Story Walk featuring the book: Honk Honk by Mick Manning, a children’s story about migratory geese. 

  • There will be a Covid & Flu Vaccine Clinic at Sheffield Elementary School on Monday, October 23rd from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.  Please see the flier attached to last week’s email.
