Hillcrest Updates

  • On Tuesday morning, all kindergarten and first grade students learned about Bus Safety with staff from F.M. Kuzmeskus. If your child rides the bus regularly, please review the bus safety rules with them. Those can be found in the Family Handbook. 

  • Our first graders participated in a Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety training led by Tori Halloran of Safe Routes to School on Tuesday afternoon.  Be sure to ask your first grader what they learned. 

  • Walk & Roll to School Day on Wednesday was so much fun!  Thank you to all the students and families who participated in this event.  And, a very big thank you goes out to Stacey Langknecht, GMRSD Family Engagement Coordinator, Tori Halloran of Safe Routes to School, the Montague Police Department, the Turners Falls Fire Department and the Town of Montague for organizing the event and joining us on our walk to school. 

  • Now that the cooler weather is here and students are wearing sweatshirts and jackets, it’s important that families label their children’s clothing.  Please use a permanent marker or fabric label to write your child’s first and last name in any outdoor clothing.  This will prevent clothing from getting lost or accidentally ending up in the wrong backpack. 

  • Please note that children should not wear shoes with heels to school. Sturdy, rubber soled shoes that tie or buckle are the best choice for school.  And, on P.E. days, sneakers are required. 

Friends of Hillcrest

  • Friends of Hillcrest, along with Friends of Sheffield, is planning a Trunk or Treat event on Friday, October 27th.  Be on the lookout for a flier coming  home in backpacks next week. 

Community News

  • Registration for K-2 Instructional Basketball, led by the Montague Parks and Recreation Department, begins on October 10th.  Check out the flier that came home in your child’s backpack for more details.

  • The Montague Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Halloween Movie in the Park on Friday, October 13th  at 7:00 p.m in Peskeompskut Park.  The movie will be The Addams Family, PG-13.

  • There will be a Covid & Flu Vaccine Clinic at Sheffield Elementary School on Monday, October 23rd from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.  Please see the flier attached to your weekly email for details.
