Dear Hillcrest Families,

I hope you all had a chance to talk with your Hillcrest student about the fire safety tips they learned from our local firefighters last week. Our students learned about practicing fire drills at home, checking with their grown-ups to be sure their smoke detectors have fresh batteries, and designating a family meet-up spot in the event of an emergency. We’re going to have a chance to reconnect with the Turners Falls Firefighters again next week when they come to school on Friday, October 29th to help our students prepare for a safe Halloween.  

 

A few important news items:

  • With Halloween just around the corner, I want to remind all Hillcrest families that we will not be holding Halloween celebrations at school.  Please do not send your Hillcrest student to school in a costume on Friday, October 29th. And, please remember that children should not bring candy to school in their backpacks or lunch boxes. Those special treats are best enjoyed at home! 

  • School photos arrived at school this week and if you ordered a picture package, it should have traveled home with your student in their backpack.  If you are unhappy with your student’s photo, or if your student was absent on Picture Day, photographer Molly Baxter will be back at Hillcrest on November 3rd for Picture Retake Day. For more information on Picture Retake Day, please call Mrs. Prokowich in the Hillcrest main office at 863-9526.

  • The class composite photo will be created after Picture Retake Day in order to include all of our current students.  Students who ordered picture packages or composite-only packages will receive their composite order when the picture retake photos are delivered to school. 

  • On Wednesday, October 27th, the Gill-Montague English Learner Parent Advisory Council (ELPAC) will hold its first meeting of the school year from 6:00 - 7:00 in the Sheffield Cafeteria.   • News from Friends of Hillcrest: Friends of Hillcrest is excited to hold our very first in-person meeting on Wednesday, October 27 from 5-6 pm! The meeting will be held in the library, with free childcare available in the all purpose room. We will be streaming our meeting through a google meet link for those who cannot attend in person. Meeting agenda will be announced prior to the meeting on the FOH Facebook page. To celebrate the return of our Friends of Hillcrest meetings, we will be providing pizza! Please come join us and see what we’re up to!
