Dear Hillcrest Families,

I hope that many of you were able to access our Virtual Open House Website to view our classroom slideshow presentations.  If you have not yet had the opportunity to do so, please visit our school website and click on the banner at the top of the page. A few important news items:

  • It’s getting chilly these days, but our classroom windows are always open a bit to promote the circulation of fresh air, so please be sure that your children have an extra layer to wear in the classroom.  And, please be sure to label EVERYTHING with your child’s first and last name.  You may be surprised by how many duplicate sweatshirts, jackets and sweaters arrive at school each day!

  • Across the nation, many businesses and organizations are working hard to hire new employees and our school district is no exception!  At Hillcrest, we currently have three open paraprofessional positions.  If you or someone you know is interested in working at our school, please email me at sarah.burstein@gmrsd.org or call me at 413-863.7400 to set up an interview.  

  • This week, I presented our School Improvement Plan to the GMRSD School Committee for approval.  The plan was approved and now we’ll be focused on achieving its initiatives.  You can view the Hillcrest School Improvement Plan on our school website. 

  • Next week, on our Early Release Day, all GMRSD Elementary Staff will participate in the first session of a three part Professional Development series titled “Brave Elementary Educators Talk about Race”. This workshop series is directly connected to our School Improvement goal centered on creating an inclusive and equitable school environment.  I am looking forward to engaging in this important work here at Hillcrest!
