Hillcrest Elementary School
Friday News
May 27, 2022
Dear Hillcrest Families,
The news this week from Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas has been sobering for all of us. School safety is a top priority for all educators and families and we strive to maintain a safe and nurturing environment. Due to the age of our students, many of them remain completely unaware of the tragedy in Texas. However, some older children may have learned about this event and they may have some questions for you. On Wednesday, I shared a resource from the National Association of School Psychologists regarding talking with children about school violence. I have attached that resource to today’s email as well. If you have specific questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me or Ms. Halina Radosz, our School Adjustment Counselor.
A few important news items:
-
Friends of Hillcrest, our amazing volunteer group, is actively seeking more members. Please check out the letter with a survey that is attached to your weekly email. Please consider lending your voice and your help to our school community. The next Friends of Hillcrest Meeting will be on Wednesday, June 1st at 5:30 at Hillcrest.
-
An important safety reminder about our daily arrival routines. Drivers must follow all standard traffic laws regarding school buses. Do not pass a school bus that has its lights flashing and its STOP sign turned on.
-
Also – Families transporting preschoolers should park in the parking lot on Griswold Street and walk their children to their designated drop-off location. Families with children in kindergarten or first grade who are also transporting preschoolers may drop their older children at rolling drop-off and then park in the visitor parking spots near the traffic circle. Please take special care when backing out of these spots. Adults and children should not cross between vehicles in the drop-off zone. Please walk to the sidewalk from the parking area and follow the sidewalk to your student’s designated spot.
-
Finally, the fire lane is not a parking zone. Please do not park in this zone at any time during the school day. If you arrive after the rolling drop-off has ended at 8:35, please park your car and walk your child into the building.
