Dear Hillcrest Families,

March has arrived and we’ve already experienced some of the wild and windy weather that we’ve come to associate with this month!  Even on these chilly, windy days, our students are still heading outside for their mask breaks, so please be sure to send them to school with plenty of layers and appropriate outdoor gear (warm jacket, hat, mittens).  And, outdoor playtime continues as long as the temperature is above 20 degrees, so boots and snow pants are essential.  

Just a few news items this week: 

  • We held our first fire drills of the school year this week on Monday and Thursday.  Our students had practiced these routines with their teachers and classmates last week, and that practice really  paid off! Our fire drills went very smoothly and students exited the building quietly and efficiently while maintaining appropriate social distancing.  Way to go Hillcrest students!  And, a special note of thanks to our Turners Falls Firefighters for their guidance and support.  We are grateful for all the TF Fire Department does to keep us safe!

  • All Hillcrest families received an email on Wednesday with details about Pooled Testing for Covid 19.  Please double check your email (including your Junk or Clutter folders) to read this important information.  Children cannot participate in Pooled Testing without signed consent from a parent or legal guardian.  

  • Parent conferences are coming . . . please be on the lookout for an email from your child’s teacher with details about your parent conference appointment. These conferences will be virtual and most will be accessible through your child’s Google Classroom meeting link.  Parent conferences are an extremely valuable opportunity to strengthen the home-school connection.  We value your participation and input.  

  • Our March Friends of Hillcrest Meeting will be held this Monday, March 8th at 5:00 p.m.  I will post a meeting link on our school Facebook page and will also send the meeting link via email to all Hillcrest families on Monday afternoon.  All Hillcrest family members are welcome to attend this meeting.  We look forward to seeing you!

  • Tuesday, March 9th -- GMRSD School Committee Meeting @ 6:30 p.m.
