Friday News
March 27, 2020
Dear Hillcrest Families,
As you know, the last Friday of the month is always an All School Meeting day at Hillcrest. Like the rest of you, I am really missing the simple routines of the school day as well as the special events that bring students, staff and families together. Without today’s All School Meeting, we could not gather to celebrate our students’ learning or to wish Happy Birthday to all of our March birthdays. We are all missing each other and we are seeking ways to connect without actually being together.
Next week, we will begin to increase remote learning opportunities across the district. To that end, our teachers have been learning more about virtual learning platforms such as Google Classroom and Google Meet. And, our technology team is exploring ways to increase access to WIFI and devices for those who do not already have those options at home. You will be receiving more details about all of this via a phone call from the Superintendent and through announcements via the district website. Please keep connecting with us regularly by responding to the district’s automated phone calls, by checking and responding to email from teachers and by checking our websites.
In addition to academic learning, we are mindful of other urgent needs such as meals for students. Please take advantage of the breakfast and lunch deliveries being provided by the school district for all children ages 18 and younger. Your child does not need to be a student in our district to take part in these meals. Meal deliveries will continue to happen at multiple sites throughout our district on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On each delivery day, students receive breakfasts, lunches and milks for multiple days. On Fridays, weekend meals are also provided. I have had the opportunity to assist in these lunch deliveries and it’s been such a joy to see some of our students! Taking a family walk to your neighborhood meal delivery location can provide you with a purposeful routine and a much needed fresh air break. Please be assured that we are taking important safety measures and social distancing precautions during meal preparation and delivery.
Please keep in touch with me and with your children’s teachers. We want to hear from you and we’re all focused on providing you with ongoing learning opportunities during this very unusual time.
Wishing you good health --
Sarah Burstein, Principal
