Hillcrest Elementary School
Friday News
June 12, 2020
Dear Hillcrest Families,
We did it! Collectively, we have all worked so hard to support our students in making it to the last day of the 2019 - 2020 school year! Each year, I see the last day of school as a celebration of the collaboration among Hillcrest staff, students, families and community members. This year, more than ever, we are especially grateful for the collaboration and commitment of our Hillcrest families! You have taken on an unexpected and very challenging role during this period of remote learning. We are so appreciative of all of your efforts! As the year closes, I have several pieces of news to share with you:
-
If you borrowed a Chromebook to use for remote learning, please return it to HIllcrest on Tuesday, June 16th between 9:00 and 3:00.
-
Your student’s report card will be mailed home on Tuesday, June 16th.
-
School meal delivery will continue on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday throughout the summer at various locations across the school district. Please check the district website for details at www.gmrsd.org.
-
If you haven’t had a chance to complete the GMRSD Remote Learning survey, you can find it here: Remote Learning Parent Survey. Please take the time to complete this survey -- your feedback is important as we build our plans for next year.
-
Our summer reading book, Last Stop on Market Street by Matt de la Pena, will soon arrive at school. Please stay tuned for details about getting a copy of this book for your Hillcrest student. Information will be shared via email, Facebook and the school website.

The first day of school is Thursday, August 27th. As soon as we have a confirmed plan for our instructional model for the return to school, it will be posted on the district website www.gmrsd.org.
Saying good-bye is bittersweet, especially when we are unable to do so in person! Our first graders will be heading on to the next step in their learning journey, Sheffield Elementary. We will miss each and every one of them and we encourage them to come back for a visit when we are able to return to school in person! We are also saying goodbye to two Hillcrest staff members this year: Michelle Bednarski, kindergarten paraprofessional, and Gina Caputo, physical therapist. Both of these talented women have made a long-lasting and positive impact on our HIllcrest community. We are sad to see them go, but we are excited to learn about the adventures they will pursue in their retirements!
During the summer months, I will be here at Hillcrest, getting prepared for the upcoming school year. Please feel free to call or email me with questions or concerns or if you simply want to chat!
Wishing you a wonderful summer --
Sarah Burstein, Principal
