Dear Hillcrest Families,

 

Wow! The last day of school is just days away!  This week, we’ve enjoyed lots of fun activities like our Spirit Days, Summer Reading Kick-Off and Field Day.  Many thanks to all the staff members and community volunteers who helped these events come to fruition.  

 

A few important news items:

 

  • We had such a blast at Hillcrest Field Day today!  Our students enjoyed a range of super fun games including Giant Bubbles, Sponge Baseball, Colander Catch, Water Relay, Spray Bottle Water Battle, Marble Pick-Up, Sponge Target Toss and a very cool Obstacle Course.  An extra big THANK YOU goes out to kindergarten parent, Liz Tyler, for organizing and orchestrating this fabulous field day!

 

  • Although our primary focus right now is the Last Day of School, I want to be sure you have the information you need to plan ahead for the start of the 2022-2023 school year. 

    • Welcome Back Letters (including classroom teacher assignments) will be mailed home to each Hillcrest family in mid-August.

    • The first day of school for First Graders is Thursday, September 1st.

    • Orientation meetings for Kindergarten and Preschool students will be held on Thursday, September 1st, Friday, September 2nd and Tuesday, September 6th.

    • The first day of school for Kindergarten and Preschool students is Thursday, September 8th. 

 

  • If you need to reach me over the summer, please call my direct office number at 413-863-7400 or  send me an email at sarah.burstein@gmrsd.org. I will be working most of the summer, but the Hillcrest Main Office will be closed from Monday, July 11th through Friday, August 5th, so please use my direct line for any phone calls.

 

  • Friends of Hillcrest will be hosting some fun summer events to help old friends stay connected and promote new friendships, too.  Mark your calendars with the following events:

    • August 28th – Playground Meeting from 9:00 - 11:00

      • All Hillcrest students and families are invited to enjoy some casual playground fun.

    • August 21st – Welcome Back Chalk the Walk @ 4:00

      • Come help us decorate the sidewalk as a welcome back to the school year. Bring your kids for 5 minutes, or an hour and bring a splash of color to the entrance walk! 

 

  • The school year is not over yet . . . we look forward to seeing every Hillcrest student next week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday!
