Dear Hillcrest Families,

We’re making great progress on the annual Food Drive to benefit MCSM – thank you very much for your participation! We are continuing to collect food donations up until next Friday, December 16th.  Please check out the attached flier for an update on the food drive. 

A few important news items:

  • Please be sure to look for your student’s report card in their backpack next Friday, November 16th.  These reports reflect your student’s progress for the first trimester of the school year.  Attached to your weekly email is an explanation of our Standards-Based Report Card. 

  • Next Friday is also the day for our December All School Meeting at 9:00 a.m. We’re looking forward to presentations from Ms. Chanda’s Preschoolers, Ms. Kelly’s Kindergarten Class  and Ms. Johnson’s First Graders. Following All School Meeting, families are invited to borrow a book from the Diverse Books Family Lending Library and they’re welcome to attend a Family Read Aloud in Ms. Kelly’s classroom featuring one of these books. 

  • On Tuesday, December 13th, we’re sponsoring a Covid-19 and Flu Vaccine clinic here at Hillcrest from 3:45 to 6:45.  Please check out the district website at www.gmrsd.org or call Nurse Jazmin Miller at 863-2638  for more details.

  • A thank you goes out to Montague PD, Turners Falls FD, the Massachusetts State Police and the Franklin County Sheriff's Department for assisting us with a Lockdown Drill this week.  These officers help us to practice this essential safety drill in a calm, efficient and supportive manner.  We are so appreciative of their expertise and support. 

 

REPEAT ITEMS

  • An Important Safety Reminder – Please be extra cautious while driving in the main traffic circle at arrival and dismissal time. In particular, please follow all traffic laws regarding school buses.  DO NOT pass a school bus, school van, or other school transportation vehicle that is displaying flashing lights and/or an extended stop sign.  We have had several drivers disregard this important law recently.  This law is in place to protect the safety of our whole community. 

  • December is traditionally a time when children’s bedtime routines may get  interrupted by holiday preparations and celebrations. Young children need a significant amount of sleep in order to stay healthy and participate fully at school.  Did you know that the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children ages three to five get 10 to 13 hours of sleep each day and that children ages six to thirteen get 9 to 12 hours of sleep each day?  An early bedtime is so important for Hillcrest students.  If your child is having trouble getting to sleep or staying asleep, please reach out to your health care provider for support.
