Dear Hillcrest Families,
Welcome to December! So far, there has been no snow to throw off our school routines, but we know that may happen! Please read the notes below for some basic info about weather related closings and delays.
A few important news items:
- Please review this important information from our Hillcrest Family Handbook regarding
School Cancellation due to stormy weather: School cancellation and delay announcements will be sent via Notify phone system and will be posted at www.gmrsd.org They will also be announced on radio WRSI 95.3 FM, WHAI 98.3 AM, and TV channels 22 and 40. Delayed openings are based on the regular start time of the school day.
Delayed Opening due to stormy weather: A Two Hour Delay means that the school day begins at 10:30 a.m. and ends at the regular dismissal time, 3:00 for preschoolers and 3:15 for kindergarten and first grade students. On Two Hour Delay days, breakfast will not be served at school. Students may arrive at school between 10:25 and 10:30 on these days. There is No School for Half-Day Preschoolers on Two Hour Delay Days. Students will be dismissed at the regular dismissal times – 3:00 for Full Day Preschoolers and 3:15 for Kindergarten and First Grade students.
Delayed Opening on Scheduled Early Release Days: In the event of a Two Hour Delay on a scheduled Early Release Day, the Early Release Day will be cancelled and the elementary school day will run from 10:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. (3:00 dismissal for preschoolers)

We’re hosting another Free Vaccine Clinic here at Hillcrest on Thursday, December 16th from 3;30 to 5:30 for children ages 5 - 17 years and adults, too. You may call Nurse Jazmin at 863-2638 to sign up. Please see the attached Vaccine Clinic Flyer for details.
-
The Universal Vax Bus is also heading back to our area. Today the bus will be at Pioneer Regional School from 2:00 - 6:00 and it will be at Federal Street School on Monday from 2:30 - 6:30. Please check out Vax Bus for more details.
-
We have been noticing an increasing number of toys, particularly the popular pop-it fidget toys, arriving at school. Please keep in mind that students should not bring toys to school. The risk of these special items getting lost is quite high.
-
Please help us to keep everyone safe and healthy by continuing to send your child to school wearing a mask, with a back-up mask in their backpack. If your child tends to need more than one “mask change” during the day, please be sure to send additional replacement masks. While we do have extra masks on hand, it is the responsibility of each family to ensure that their child has an adequate supply of masks for their use.

At this time of year, families are often thinking about new apps, video games and movies. Common Sense media is an excellent resource for determining if a media source is an appropriate developmental fit for young children. You can check out Common Sense Media at www.commonsensemedia.org.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend ---
