Principal Newsletter June 11, 2020
Principal Newsletter for June 11, 2020
-
This is the final newsletter for this year and I write it with mixed emotions. I am disappointed, repulsed, and hopeful! I’m disappointed our students were unable to be in a ‘normal’ classroom with their teacher for the spring. I’m disappointed we were unable to conduct our end of year field trips including a half day at the middle school for our fifth graders, our first graders coming here, and traditions to celebrate all students. I’m repulsed by the continued injustice to marginalize and mistreat fellow human beings based on the color of their skin, and other biases. I’m hopeful that our topsy turvy world will resume some sense of normalcy. I’m hopeful because we have resources to work with our students to address social justice. I’m hopeful because I know we have a supportive community!
Here is a great resource to support talking with your child/ren about social justice: https://www.tolerance.org/

The meals program will continue Monday, Wednesday and Friday through August 21, 2020.

The school year we will have at least three new faces. Second grade teacher, Jessica Briggs will be taking a leave of absence to be home with her new baby. Kent Brenneck has taken a position in another district. Marykate Smith Despres will be taking a leave until January. We welcome back Lana Herzig and Stephanie Lofland in the fall from their leaves of absence.
-
Friday is the drive through pick up of student personal belongings between 10:30-12:30 in the Sheffield parking lot, following the grade level schedule that was shared and is on the website.
-
Report cards will be mailed the week of June 15, 2020. Your child’s teacher for next year will be included on the report card. A supply list will be included in this mailing. The supply list is a recommendation for those who would like to purchase them for your child/ren, but not required.

The school has purchased a book for each student to read over the summer. Classroom teachers will begin the school year discussing the book. Unfortunately, the book will not be in your child’s bag, but we will make arrangements for distribution when they arrive.
-
For students in grades 2-4 who borrowed a chromebook, please return on Monday, June 15 between 9:00-12:00. We need to clean, repair and inventory before redistributing them for summer school.

I wish all of you a healthy, happy, and safe summer until school starts August 27th- however that may be. Please check the district website for updates about our return to school.
Stay healthy and well,
