Vehicle Construction with Mrs. Yurkevicz
This week my students used their fine motor, visual-motor, focus, and sequencing skills to assemble a model truck, helicopter and car. I was proud of how patient they all were with getting through all the steps to get this done. It was great to see how their hard work paid off when everyone got to go home with a small vehicle once they were finished.
Bridge Art with Ms. Castro-Santos
Second grade artists listened to the story of "Tar Beach" by the artist, Faith Ringgold. They learned about her life in the city, and how on hot evenings her family would go up to the roof of their apartment building to cool off. They called it Tar Beach. Faith Ringgold envisioned herself flying in the sky above the Brooklyn bridge, imaging all the things she might do when she grew up.
Second graders examined photos of the different bridges in Turners Falls and printed and painted their own shape city. They drew a portrait of themself flying above their town, dreaming their dreams of the future.

Book Vending Machine - December Countdown
At Sheffield, we are counting down the days to vacation with some fun! During the twelve days, we will be recognizing positive behaviors. This week, students received a "ticket" for: "Kindness is Spoke Here" and "Greeting Others". Students are placing their tickets in a box located outside of Nurse Billie's office. On December 22, we will draw 15 student winners to "purchase" books from the vending machine.
